WHERE IT ALL STARTED
Born and raised in SAGINAW, mi, De’Niel Phipps’ story did not start on the red carpet. He grew up in one of the most DANGEROUS cities in america, and a home that was both fatherless and MOTHERLESS. As he watched his friends pass away or be incarcerated he would sit in his room late at night and dream of a better life for himself and his family. Through his faith, the love of his family, and mentors in the COMMUNITY De’Niel was able to change his life. hear his amazing story first hand of determination and perseverance.

ALWAYS REMEMBER
The road to your dreams isn’t always easy to navigate, sometimes dotted with mountains to climb, obstacles to overcome—and hard, mind-numbing times that will make you feel like quitting. Just remember this if you get lost along the way: Anything worth having doesn’t come easy. So don’t turn back around. Don’t give up.
"The benefits that De'Niel gave to the over 300 students at Winton Woods High School were insurmountable. His story was so engaging and enriching that it immediately grabbed the attention of all four grade levels of students. Many students, including ours, have struggles going on in the background due to family, friends, or social media posts. It was so uplifting to hear such a positive story and message for how one can move past what others have tried to write for them in their life in order to chart a new pathway for themselves. The biggest testament to De'Niel's story was that, after his talk to our students, there were 40 of them who voluntarily stayed an extra 20 minutes simply to learn more and hear more from De'Niel about his journey. Students are STILL raving about how amazing his presentation was and, given that we host international delegations and have speakers quite often at our school, this is truly impressive!"
